Overview

When we say “next-gen,” we don’t mean just better graphics or faster loading times—we mean a fundamental shift in how games are built, experienced, and sustained. Too many titles claim innovation while delivering little beyond visual upgrades. Real next-generation gaming means leveraging the transformative technologies reshaping the digital world; things like AI, blockchain, edge networking, distributed computing and others to create a changing world that feels alive in ways previously unattainable.

Together, these technologies enable a world that is not only dynamic, reactive, and persistent, but also player-empowered, scalable and sustainable—a universe that grows not just from developer effort, but from intelligent systems and community collaboration.

This is what we believe a truly next-gen MMORPG should be.

Artificial Intelligence

AI is a polarizing topic in game development, and we recognize the issues—particularly when it’s used to cut corners or replace creative work. We want to take a different approach. We see AI as a tool to support developers, creatives and game masters, not supplant them. When integrated with procedural systems, simulations, and designer-driven toolsets, AI could become a force multiplier. It could handle repetitive, mundane tasks—basic world population, quest wiring, balance validation, large-scale assembly—so human creators can focus on vision, cohesion, and meaningful player experiences. It could orchestrate numerous complex game systems in tandem which would be impossible to coordinate manually at scale—sequencing dynamic quest lines, world events, faction conflicts, and more under the direction and control of devs and GMs…

The goal isn’t automation or generation of hollow content. It’s sustainability and scale: empowering focused teams to build richer, more responsive, and more maintainable worlds than would otherwise be practical or possible through traditional, manual production and operations alone.

Edge Networking

Edge networking is another ambition of our infrastructure strategy; enabling faster, more responsive gameplay by processing data closer to players. Instead of relying solely on distant central servers, we’re looking to use geographically distributed edge nodes to reduce latency, improve connection stability, and support real-time interactions at scale.

This would allow for smoother combat, quicker resource loading, and more consistent experiences—even in high-intensity moments like large-scale battles or dynamic events. By bringing the game closer to the player, we can create a more immersive and responsive world without compromising reliability or reach.

Distributed Computing

Distributed computing would allow us to build a more expansive and dynamic game world by intelligently spreading computational work across multiple systems. Rather than relying on centralized servers, key processes like simulation, content generation, and world events are handled in parallel across a coordinated network.

The design is to enable larger, more persistent environments with complex systems running smoothly at scale—reducing bottlenecks and infrastructure strain. By distributing the load, we could create a more resilient and responsive experience, making the admittedly ambitious gameplay systems and frameworks possible without requiring massive human or hardware overhead.

Blockchain

Blockchain technology integrated into our game could enable true ownership, transparency, and player-driven economies within the game world. By securely tracking in-game assets and transactions on a decentralized ledger, we could empower players with verifiable ownership of items, currencies, and collectibles—allowing them to trade, sell, or use their possessions across experiences with confidence.

This foundation reduces reliance on centralized oversight, supports fair and transparent systems, and opens new possibilities for long-term value and community stewardship. Our goal isn’t to gamify finance, but to build a more open, equitable, and sustainable world where players have greater agency over their digital assets.

Quantum Computing

While quantum computing is still in its early stages, we want to design our systems with a quantum-ready foundation to ensure scalability and security as the technology evolves. This means looking at building with modular, post-quantum cryptography and data structures that can adapt when quantum processors become viable at scale. Our goal here isn’t to chase hype, but to future-proof the game’s infrastructure—protecting player assets, securing networks, and ensuring we could take advantage of new computational possibilities when the hardware and technology catches up.

Scaling, Cascading & Modular Code

Our entire codebase would be built around a modular, cascading architecture designed for scalability and long-term evolution. Systems should be decoupled and interoperable, which would allow us to update, expand, or replace features without disrupting the broader world. This would mean faster iteration, smoother content rollouts, and the ability to scale from small quests to massive events—all on a stable, unified foundation. By prioritizing clean, reusable code, we would reduce technical debt and empower both the developers and AI systems to maintain and grow the game efficiently over time.

Player-Supported Infrastructure

By combining edge networking, distributed computing, and blockchain, we could enable a more resilient and scalable game world—one that can intelligently utilize idle resources from player systems to help power content delivery, simulation, and services.

When opted in, players could contribute bandwidth, storage, and/or compute when their system is not in use, reducing infrastructure strain and improving performance for everyone. Through blockchain-verified contributions, these participants would be rewarded with in-game value, creating a collaborative ecosystem where players aren’t just consumers, but active contributors to the world they love.

VR & Console 

Designed not just to be ‘accessible’ on VR and console platforms, but to provide an exceptional experience on those platforms in tandem with traditional computer setups.

From building in support and frameworks for gesture controls to skills and ability usage systems that don’t require countless buttons, we want this to be a game that plays as well in VR or on a console as it does on a traditional computer system.
